Thaali Menu – 11
At times, I feel so energetic and rest, I feel super-lazy to cook more than a one-pot meal… If I know you’re visiting me at my place, I would plan a lovely menu and cook all possible stuff for you! But if it’s for myself, I’ll go ahead with comfort meals ;)
A long back (ohhh yes, it’s been too long now) one of my dearest buddies – NB visited me with her 2 cute little girls! And I so much wanted to cook a delicious spread for her… What can be better than preparing a traditional Gujarati thaali for a non-gujju friend!!! I did the same… Make some simple yet pure gujju dishes for her and I still can visualize her little one sipping on the kadhi :P
Here is what all I served for that lunch… :)
I bet you’ve heard this word before… Connection between thepla and gujju is more like “sky-moon”!!! Bad at example, I know :P Poor me…
- Rasawalu bataka nu shaak
“I don’t like potato curry” is something no gujju said ever ever ever!!! The simplest of all… this sweet and tangy curry is the best of gujarati cuisine ;)
If you happen to visit Gujarat anytime, you must plan a trip to Saurastra and try out kathiyawadi menu at highway wale dhabas… <3 This smoky, spicy mashed eggplant is too good to have with rotla (millet flour flatbread)!!!
- Gujarati Kadhi
Sweet and sour kadhi that’s made with yogurt, besan and minimal spices… you can’t stop at one bowl for sure!
- Coconut Laddoo
A quick treat for sweet lovers! A few ingredients and a few minutes… you’re done!!! :)
- Quick Carrot Pickle
I do it quite like how my mum used to! That’s a lifesaver, specially when you’re a picky eater and don’t like many veggies in your meal ;)
I adore Thali dishes ! Many years ago I lived and worked in Uganda and often ate Thali with many Indian friends. I have been addicted to Indian cuisine since those days. Here in the UK Supermarkets sell ready made pastes with various names, however they ALL taste the same ! I order my spices , curry leaves, Poppadoms, mango and lime pickles on line from this site = http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/
Making curry now , Friday , for 15 people for Saturday dinner.
